Project 8, a game from 11 Bit Studios that started back in 2018, has been scrapped.
“Our vision for Project 8, which was intended to be our first title designed specifically for console gamers, was bold and exciting. However, it was conceived under very different market conditions, when narrative-driven, story-rich games held stronger appeal,” explained president Przemysław Marszał in a statement.
The pandemic threw a wrench in the works, causing delays and making the budget balloon. As they reached the latest checkpoint, too many issues remained, and the team realized they couldn’t finish the game properly or on time, so they decided to stop.
Some team members might lose their jobs due to the cancellation, but others will have chances to work on different projects.
Meanwhile, 11 Bit Studios brought out Frostpunk 2 in September, which snagged the Best Strategy Game award at The Game Awards 2024. They also gave a new award called “Game Changer” to Amir Satvat, who has been a hero to many laid-off developers by helping them find new gigs.
Fans often wonder if these changes make the gaming world better or more complicated.
In our Frostpunk 2 review, we said, “Frostpunk 2’s challenging gameplay makes for a compelling experience despite a dour and cynical view of human nature.”
