2K Games Launches New Hero Shooter Project Ethos Playable Now

-

2K Games just shared exciting news about their new free-to-play shooter, Project Ethos, through a cool trailer and a chance for everyone to join in a community playtest.

Created by 31st Union, this game is called a “third-person roguelike hero shooter” by 2K, where players get to pick special upgrades, named Evolutions, to make each hero unique in their own way. It’s like turning a sniper into a close-up fighter or making a team helper a strong solo player. “Shape your playstyle every match through Evolutions: powerful, semi-randomized, upgrades unique to each hero,” says 2K. “Evolve a sniper into a close-range skirmisher, or a support role into a powerful lone wolf. Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle.”

To join the fun, you can check out two modes: Trials and Gauntlet. In Trials, teams of three work together to collect something called cores while trying to beat others. These cores are important because you can swap them for Augments, which help you in later Trials. But be careful, if you leave the game early, you won’t get as many cores. If a player falls, friends can help them up, and if they’re out completely, they can come back using Respawn Beacons, as long as someone from their team is still alive.

The Gauntlet mode is more intense, where squads compete in a tournament. Heroes can get stronger between matches, and the main aim is to be the last team standing. Once you’re out in this mode, you stay out until the next match starts.

People think trying the game is the best way to learn about it. The playtest is available now, and you can join by watching 30 minutes of certain livestreams on Twitch Drop. However, it’s only open to people in specific countries like the US, Canada, and parts of Europe.

The playtest times are set, and you can find them below:

North American countries:
– October 17: 9 AM – 11 PM PT
– October 18-20: 11 AM – 11 PM PT

European countries:
– October 17: 5 PM – 1 AM GMT+1
– October 18-21: 1 PM – 1 AM GMT+1

We wonder how fun this new game will be.

2K and 31st Union haven’t shared when Project Ethos will officially come out, but if you’re curious, you can find more details on the game’s official website.
