Activision Hints at Advanced Movement’s Comeback in Call of Duty: Warzone

-

Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone originally launched with adjustments that reduced the fast-paced movement featured in recent titles, including the slide cancel mechanic in Call of Duty. Recently, various content creators received packages with items that seem to hint at the return of this advanced movement technique.

Quick Facts

  • Content creators received packages containing slides footwear, a can, and a burner cell phone.
  • Slide canceling was an advanced movement trick first introduced in Modern Warfare 2019.
  • Modern Warfare 3 has been officially teased for a November 10 release date.

Activision sent mysterious packages to several content creators and professional Warzone players, such as Kris “Swagg” Lamberson from FaZe Clan and Tyler “TeeP” Polchow from OpTic Gaming. The packages contained a peculiar combination of items: a pair of slides footwear, a can, and a burner cell phone, which seemingly implies the return of the slide canceling movement. Combining the three random items results in Slide+Can+Cell.

Slide canceling, originally introduced in Modern Warfare 2019, was a popular and advanced movement trick that highly skilled players used to evade enemy fire and maintain their movement momentum. It enabled them to cancel the game’s slide animation, reset their tactical sprint, and maintain momentum with smoother sliding.

Infinity Ward removed this advanced movement in Modern Warfare 2, giving the game a more classic Call of Duty feel. However, it appears that the developer is now returning the movement to its previous state. It is unclear whether the changes will affect Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer, but players can likely expect to be slide canceling in Warzone soon, as the cell phone in the packages provided an additional hint, stating, “You’ll be expected to move more quickly in Al Mazrah.”

Reintroducing slide canceling now is a very late change for Warzone and Al Mazrah, especially since Modern Warfare 3 has been officially teased with a November 10 launch date. It remains uncertain whether this movement feature will also be brought back in the upcoming title, but be sure to keep an eye on all the rumors and leaks surrounding Modern Warfare 3’s release.
