Alan Wake 2 is having a rough time on the PlayStation 5 Pro with its graphics and performance issues.
The game has been struggling with image clarity and the fancy AI-upscaling tech called PSSR. To tackle these problems, a new update is here, and it even lets you turn off PSSR if that’s your thing. When you do, it switches to AMD’s FSR, which sometimes works better for this game. Digital Foundry had a look and found that while FSR might be clearer in some cases, PSSR still generally offers a superior experience.
Remedy wants players to have the freedom to choose, so they’re letting folks decide whether to use PSSR or not. They’ve also thrown in a 40fps mode if your TV can handle 120Hz. This mode mixes the sharpness of Quality mode with the smoothness of Performance mode. Plus, they’ve made some tweaks to improve the frame rate and make those ray-traced reflections less noisy. You can grab the update now and see all the changes for yourself.
Sometimes, fans just want the best gaming experience possible, and it’s great when developers listen.
Here’s a quick rundown of the improvements: there’s a new Balanced graphics mode for those fancy screens that can hit 120Hz, and they’ve smoothed out the Performance mode for more steady gameplay. Raytracing got some love, too, to make the visuals cleaner. And guess what? You can now toggle PSSR on or off as you like.
In terms of fixes, they’ve sorted out some collectibles showing the wrong pages and fixed a video missing sound at The Lake House. There are also minor tweaks and optimizations across the board.
