Alan Wake Update Removes Classic Bowie Song with a Catch

-

Remedy just shared that an update for Alan Wake will swap out David Bowie’s famous “Space Oddity” with a new song called “Strange Moons” by their composer Petri Alanko.

The change won’t impact Alan Wake Remastered from 2021. Everyone knows the line “ground control to Major Tom” from Bowie’s song, which played during the end credits of Alan Wake. We haven’t heard “Strange Moons” yet, but Alanko mentioned on X/Twitter that part of it was in a level that got cut before the game’s release.

Game developers often have to change or remove songs from their games because of expired licenses. A recent example is Spec Ops: The Line, which was taken off Steam due to expiring partnership licenses. It’s sad that new players can’t enjoy one of the best shooters from the early 2010s. Alan Wake 2’s latest DLC, Night Springs, came out in June.

Fans sometimes feel bummed when this happens.

Remedy has teamed up with Annapurna to co-finance and self-publish Control 2. This could lead to movies or TV shows based on Control and Alan Wake.
