Later this year, Astro Bot is getting free DLC focused on speedruns.
According to game director Nicholas Doucet in an interview with Quest Daily, “You know it’s not going to be like, you know, a huge, huge amount, but it will be focusing on one of the features that people enjoyed in Astro’s Playroom. That was the speedruns,” he explained. “You know, there were some speedruns, and the levels were quite short, but it was the fact that you could replay and keep shaving time off with some new VIP bots to rescue, so some characters we didn’t include yet will appear.”
This new content will also have leaderboards so players can compete with each other. The team is working on harder levels and is even thinking about adding some fun, toy-like elements that everyone can enjoy, no matter how good they are at the game.
We always love it when our favorite games get new stuff!
There’s been a lot of talk about which other characters might show up in Astro Bot in the future. The game’s credits mentioned several third-party developers who allowed their characters to be used. This includes Ubisoft, thanked three times for Assassin’s Creed, Beyond Good & Evil, and Rayman. There were also shout-outs to Croc and Worms, Stellar Blade, and Rise of the Ronin. None of these characters are in the game yet, so they might show up in the DLC.
Astro Bot came out on September 6 for PS5. In GameSpot’s review, they said, “This is a grand re-opening for Astro Bot, and it surely marks the start of what is destined to be a beloved series shooting for the moon.”
