Australia Bans New Fighting Game: Reasons Unknown

-

Australia is known for having super strict rules about what video games can be sold there, and it looks like another game might not make it to their stores.

The game Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact, inspired by the famous anime, got a big “no” from the Australian Classification Board (ACB), which means it can’t be sold in Australia. They didn’t say why, but based on their past decisions, we can guess a few things.

One big reason might be because the game shows drugs in a way that seems cool, like making characters faster or stronger. If taking drugs gives a character more health, the ACB usually doesn’t like that. A game called Disco Elysium: The Final Cut was banned for this reason, but later on, they changed their mind after realizing it actually shows how drugs are bad.

Another reason could be scenes of sexual violence or characters that look too young in adult situations. South Park: The Stick of Truth faced a ban because it had scenes with an alien doing weird stuff to a young character. They had to release a version without those scenes, using a picture of a crying koala to explain what was cut.

The company Eighting, which has worked with Nintendo on games like Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Pikmin 4, and Nintendo Switch Sports, is making Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact. It’s supposed to come out on PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC, but unless Arc System Works tries to change ACB’s mind, Aussie fans might not get to play.
