Avowed, an RPG exclusive to Xbox by Obsidian, promises a multitude of endings.
During Gamescom, Carrie Patel shared with IGN that the game’s conclusion will feature many variations, hinting at “double digits” worth of endings. She mentioned, “That is very hard to say, but I can tell you our ending slides number in the double digits. And you can end up with a lot of different combinations of them. This is an Obsidian game, so your ending is really the sum total of your choices across the game, across a lot of pieces of content depending on what you encountered and what you did when you found it.”
The description brings to mind other RPGs like Fallout, where your decisions shape various storylines and character outcomes. Obsidian, known for Fallout: New Vegas, seems to be continuing this trend.
Patel also talked about the significant decisions players will face. She said players will decide where their true loyalties lie and who they will ally with as the game progresses. “We’re really excited for players to explore those possibilities and build their own story.”
We often love RPGs because they let us craft our own unique stories.
Obsidian is also focusing on companion characters in Avowed. Recently, they revealed the voice cast for these characters through a tweet. Among them is Kai, voiced by Brandon Keener who fans will remember as Garrus Vakarian from Mass Effect.
Originally planned for 2024, Avowed’s release has been postponed to February 15, 2025, allowing players more time to clear their gaming backlog.
