Backyard Sports, the beloved kid-friendly sports game series from 1999 to 2015, is making a grand return, announced Playground Productions.
This revival isn’t limited to just video games; it will span across different areas like merchandise, movies, TV shows, and more. While the exact details are still under wraps, we can expect the first project to drop in the next few months.
A teaser trailer was released with the announcement. It features kids in the classic Backyard Sports style gearing up for a baseball game. We see a treehouse with league standings and tournament brackets, the playground itself, and then Pablo Sanchez stepping up to bat.
Playground Productions was established in 2022 by Lindsay Barrett, who has over ten years of experience as a second-grade teacher in Chicago’s public schools. Their website mentions using the best technology and talent to create content that celebrates play and meets kids at their developmental stage.
Backyard Sports first came out on PC as Backyard Baseball in October 1997. Backyard Soccer and Backyard Football followed in September 1998 and October 1999. The last games before this new announcement were mobile versions released in February 2015. There was also talk of a Backyard Sports movie in 2016, but that never happened.
