Black Myth: Wukong is a super popular game right now, but it’s not available on Xbox Series X|S because of a secret deal between Sony and GameScience.
IGN and
reported that the earlier story about technical problems causing the delay on Xbox wasn’t true. Instead, it looks like PlayStation 5 has exclusive rights to the game for now.
Sony and GameScience haven’t said anything about this exclusive deal yet, but GameScience mentioned they’re working on optimizing the game for Xbox. Microsoft also shared their own statement regarding Black Myth: Wukong.
“We’re excited for the launch of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms,” Microsoft explained. “We can’t comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders, but we remain focused on making Xbox the best platform for gamers, and great games are at the center of that.”
Sometimes, games get delayed on Series S because both Series X and S versions need to come out together with all features intact. This happened with Baldur’s Gate 3 before, but that’s not what’s causing the delay for Black Myth: Wukong.
Black Myth: Wukong is breaking records! It sold 10 million copies between August 20 and August 23, beating games like Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy in that same period. It even matches The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s three-day sales record.

GameSpot reviewed Black Myth: Wukong and said, “Black Myth: Wukong delights with a gauntlet of thrilling boss battles against a menagerie of Chinese mythology’s greatest creatures, but the moments in between are disappointing.”
