In the first week of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s release, something interesting popped up—players can pay $20 for a special audio feature.
COD content creator Omeqa showed off a screenshot on X (the app we used to call Twitter) revealing that players can try out Embody’s Immerse spatial audio for free before deciding to buy it. This fancy audio tool uses your head and ear shape to create a unique sound experience and costs $20 for five years. You can find it under the Enhanced Headphone Mode in the game’s settings. If you want, you can stick with the universal profile, but for a fee, you can get one that’s all about you.
This isn’t the first time a game has teamed up with Embody for this kind of audio magic. Final Fantasy XIV has been using it for a while, and Cyberpunk 2077 joined in earlier this year. But seeing it right in the game menu is still pretty rare.
While some people might love the idea of a personal sound bubble, others aren’t so sure. Fans sometimes wonder if paying extra for these Gamepacks is worth it, especially when some say it’s not much different from Dolby Atmos.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is dropping on October 25, and you can preload it now if you’re ready to dive in. The personalized audio works on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, so you’re covered no matter your platform.
