Blizzard Open to World of Warcraft 2 Possibility

-

World of Warcraft has been a favorite game for two decades, earning money from subscriptions all this time.

Instead of just adding more to the current game, Blizzard might one day decide to make a brand new version, but that day is far off, according to Ion Hazzikostas in an interview with GamesRadar. He hinted at the idea of a sequel, World of Warcraft 2, but it’s not happening anytime soon.

Hazzikostas explained that a fresh start with a sequel might be something they consider way in the future. “Theoretically, at some long, distant point down the line, that may be a question we grapple with seriously,” he mentioned, focusing on keeping the current community happy and engaged for now.

What keeps World of Warcraft exciting is its knack for change and adaptation from a tech standpoint, he noted.

“We’re constantly tearing out some old foundational system and replacing it with something that will scale to support our new server architecture, to support new graphics pipelines, to support new aspects of multiplayer interaction that the original game couldn’t have imagined,” Hazzikostas shared.

Their main goal is to keep making the game enjoyable for the millions of fans playing. “We are making the improvements that we think suit the modern audience best,” he said.

Many games like Overwatch, Destiny, and Counter-Strike have made sequels, but World of Warcraft stays with what has been successful so far.

There was a time Blizzard tried creating a new MMO with the Titan project, but it didn’t work out, and some ideas from it ended up in Overwatch.

People are curious if World of Warcraft might come to consoles, especially after Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard. Holly Longdale, WoW’s executive producer, admitted they are considering it, saying, “We are Microsoft now.”

The game’s tenth expansion, The War Within, came out in August, and GameSpot praised it as one of the best. The next update goes all out with goblins.
