Blizzard Plans New StarCraft Shooter

-

Blizzard’s StarCraft series has been pretty quiet since 2020 when updates for StarCraft II stopped.

But now, word is out that Blizzard is trying once again to make a StarCraft shooter after two previous failed attempts. Jason Schreier, who’s releasing his new book Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, dropped by IGN’s Unlocked podcast and spilled the beans. He mentioned that the team left over from Blizzard’s canceled survival game is working on this new shooter project, with Dan Hay, a seasoned developer from Ubisoft’s Far Cry series, at the helm.

Blizzard has struggled to turn StarCraft’s deep lore into a successful shooter. Their first try, StarCraft: Ghost, kicked off in 2001 but got stuck in development hell before being axed. Another attempt, StarCraft: Ares, met its end in 2019.

We hope they get it right this time.

Recently, it was announced that StarCraft Remastered and StarCraft 2 are coming to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on November 5. Maybe the success of these releases will push Activision Blizzard and Microsoft to finally greenlight StarCraft 3.
