Bungie Fixes Destiny 2 Perk RNG After Community Bug Hunt

-

Not too long ago, Destiny 2 players started noticing that some legendary weapon perks seemed to be super rare, almost impossible to find.

After the release of the new dungeon, Vesper’s Host, gamers felt something was off when they tried to get the VS Chill Inhibitor grenade launcher with the best perks, Envious Arsenal and Bait and Switch. The community called this mystery “WeightGate,” suspecting Bungie might have a hidden system making certain perks hard to get.

At first, folks thought maybe it was just bad luck, but as more people struggled, the suspicion grew. A clever developer, Newo, who made the analytics tool RaidHub, created another tool to keep track of these perk rolls on a big scale, and guess what? They found a pattern.

The data showed a weird thing: there are spots where some perks almost never drop. Out of all the tracked drops, only seven lucky players got the Chill Inhibitor with the perfect perks. Bungie admitted there’s a bug causing this mess. “While we inspected our content and confirmed each perk is weighted equally, an issue in perk pool RNG is the culprit here,” they said in a post on the

People often feel like detectives when they uncover these gaming mysteries.

Bungie plans to fix this with a hotfix on November 5. “As this fix will touch code for a game-wide system, we’re giving the team a bit more time to fully validate the changes needed to address this issue,” they shared in a new update. Bungie is also considering ways to reward players who helped uncover the issue, saying, “We’re looking at a few options not only to thank many of you for your data-crunching, but to get some weapons in your hands that had perk rolls with lower RNG chances than intended.”

Meanwhile, players can grab the Conquerors of Infinity emblem using the code provided in
