Bungie’s new game Marathon is set to be an extraction shooter priced at $40.
Forbes reports that Marathon’s price is influenced by the success of Helldivers 2, which also cost $40. Concord’s $40 price didn’t do well, but Sony is still going with the same idea for Marathon. So, it won’t be free-to-play and will come with a standard cosmetic and battle-pass system on top of the $40.
We won’t hear much more about Marathon until Spring 2025. Game director Joe Ziegler might share some updates to address leaks and rumors, like a possible class or hero system. When Ziegler took over from Christopher Barrett, the idea of heroes became more important. These heroes are said to be like those in Apex Legends but with more customization, including special abilities like double jump, fast revive, and invisibility.
The game will still have puzzles and secrets, but they’ve been reduced because they weren’t working as planned. The art direction that was first shown will be more prominent due to good feedback.
Despite recent layoffs at Bungie, a 2025 release for Marathon is still expected. However, morale is low because employees are leaving and they can’t talk much about the game.
