Activision set up its Ricochet system back in 2021 to tackle cheating in Call of Duty games.
In a blog post on the Call of Duty site, the Ricochet team admitted they messed up with the anti-cheat tech during Black Ops 6 Season 1, especially in Ranked Play. They said, “We did not hit the mark for the integration of Ricochet Anti-Cheat at the launch of Season 1–particularly for Ranked Play. We understand the promise of glory and notoriety from Ranked Play leaderboards makes Ranked Play an attractive target for cheaters. For this reason, our teams have been especially focused on turning the tide to deliver the competitive arena our players seek.” The promise of fame on leaderboards draws cheaters, so the team is working hard to fix things.
To tackle the issue, account bans are now happening every hour. They’re also checking more game clips manually, besides using AI, to catch cheaters. This means cheaters will disappear from leaderboards quicker, thanks to better syncing with investigations.
Some real players got banned by mistake, but most got their accounts back. When Black Ops 6 first came out, cheaters were everywhere in Ranked mode, and an outage made Ricochet’s AI less effective at spotting them.
The Ricochet team asked players to report cheaters when they see them. They also shared that big updates for Ricochet are coming in Black Ops 6 Seasons 2 and 3.
A recent patch for Black Ops 6 fixed other game issues, and players found a cool Easter egg in Nuketown. Plus, Treyarch hinted at a Black Ops 6 and Squid Game crossover.
