Activision has abruptly canceled a much-anticipated Call of Duty mod just before its planned release.
The H2M mod, which aimed to bring back the classic Modern Warfare II multiplayer experience, won’t see the light of day. Activision, as many fans worried, sent a cease and desist order to the developers. This is similar to what happened with the fan-made Call of Duty SM2 mod in 2023. “We are complying with this order and shutting down all operations immediately and permanently,” said the developers. They received this notice on August 15, just one day before H2M was supposed to launch on August 16.
To play the H2M mod, gamers would have needed a copy of 2017’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. Anticipation for the mod caused a spike in sales for Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam. However, once the cease and desist news broke, players began to review-bomb Modern Warfare Remastered, resulting in its recent reviews turning “mostly negative.”
Interestingly, Modern Warfare Remastered went on sale on Steam around this time, leading some people to think Activision wanted to profit from the H2M buzz. But it’s worth noting that this game often goes on sale.
Today, our team members received a Cease & Desist order on behalf of Activision Publishing in relation to the H2M-Mod project. We are complying with this order and shutting down all operations immediately and permanently.

Fans sometimes feel like big companies don’t care about their love for classic games.
Many fans appreciated the effort put into H2M and even wanted to donate to support its creators. However, one of the founders made it clear that there are no plans for donations: “Anyone trying to make money off H2M is not us. Beware,” they warned. The team might shift focus towards creating an original game next.
In other news about Call of Duty, Activision plans to reveal details about Black Ops 6 at the Call of Duty Next event on August 28. The beta for Black Ops 6 will start soon after, beginning on August 30.
