In the world of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, we meet two very different heroes: Yasuke, a strong samurai, and Naoe, a speedy shinobi.
Yasuke stands tall, like a fortress with tons of weapons, while Naoe sneaks around with lightning speed. The game makers say she can even run like Naruto, you know, that famous ninja sprint! Creative director Jonathan Dumont told EW that Naoe dashes forward with her arms trailing behind, almost like the anime style. But he didn’t exactly call it the “Naruto run.” “We do have a run on top of buildings that has a little bit of a wink-wink to it,” Dumont chuckled. He then hinted at Naoe’s mysterious past, saying she’s secretly connected to the Assassin Brotherhood through her dad, though she’s clueless about it when the game kicks off.
According to Dumont, her dad tried hard to protect her from the chaos in the world, but eventually, everything crumbles around her. She’s thrown into a war, unaware of where she truly comes from. Her dad trained her, but her mom? That’s a mystery. As a wise Japanese saying goes, “A frog in a well knows nothing of the sea.” Naoe is about to leap into the big wide world, finding out she’s more than just a shinobi. There’s something special in her bloodline, maybe a different kind of shinobi, an Assassin.
Sometimes, fans just love to explore these deep backstories and uncover secrets.
Dumont also introduced Shadows’ Canon Mode, which can decide the major story twists for players, including who to fall in love with, although you can still choose for yourself if you want. Ubisoft hints at a fresh take on the modern-day storyline in Shadows and gave a long look at how fighting will work. Oh, and the battle pass details slipped out online, but don’t worry, Ubisoft says the Animus Hub rewards are on the house.
Mark your calendars! Assassin’s Creed Shadows arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on February 14, 2025.
