Catly Dev Unveils Trailer, No Generative AI in Game

-

The second sneak peek of Catly, a game first shown at The Game Awards in 2024, has popped up on Steam, sparking chat about AI involvement.

In this preview, cats with both normal and fantastically odd fur coats roam the streets before players see the cat creator tool. This feature lets you design your dream cat, changing how it looks and what it wears. Whether you fancy a kitty in a classic calico coat or one decked out like a character from Pokemon, there are options aplenty. You can dress them up with a variety of clothes and accessories, too.

Interestingly, the worldbuilder in the game lets you create unique, alien-like places for your cats to live. While some folks have been skeptical about the visuals, thinking they might be AI-made, SuperAuthenti, the game’s developer, is surprised by these claims. They firmly state that “generative AI has played no part in the game’s development” and there’s no blockchain or NFTs involved. Yet, some people remain dubious, pointing to image artifacts that often hint at AI generation.

Sometimes, fans just love diving into the mysteries of game development.

As of now, there’s no set date for Catly’s release, but you can already add it to your wishlist on Steam.
