CoD Black Ops 6: New Multiplayer Maps & Gameplay Updates

-

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is dropping on October 25, and Activision has spilled some fresh beans about its multiplayer mode.

When the game arrives, players will get to explore 16 new multiplayer maps. While the beta allowed players to try out eight smaller maps, the rest promise a mix of medium-sized battlegrounds.

The new maps range from a soccer stadium’s edge to a safehouse nestled in Bulgaria’s mountains, and even a snowy Vorkuta map from Black Ops 1’s prison break mission with Mason. One map, Warhead, is a tiny Nuketown, already wrecked by missiles.

The maps for Call of Duty League and Ranked Play are still under wraps but will be unveiled soon. “We’re excited about the map variety we’ve got this year, and we always take competitive play into consideration for multiplayer,” said Activision.

Feedback from the two-week beta has led to spawn system improvements, though specifics are hush-hush. Activision promises ongoing tweaks to spawns “through launch and beyond.”

Treyarch’s Omnimovement system is bringing some neat tricks to Black Ops 6, letting players sprint, slide, and dive any which way. We loved the fluidity during our hands-on, and Treyarch is making it even better with tweaks to slide speed and animations.

Headshot damage is getting a revamp due to player feedback. Activision said, “A common piece of feedback we saw was that low headshot damage reduced the impact of skillful play and made it difficult to challenge certain power positions. We agree with these points and are working on adjustments to many weapons to reward players who land multiple headshots during an engagement.”

Fans think these changes are going to make the game a lot more exciting.

However, they also want to keep time-to-kill consistent, so they’ll keep an eye on headshot effectiveness after launch.

Performance-wise, they’ve addressed freezing and hitching seen in the beta. Additional fixes include script errors, UI issues, and overall asset streaming improvements.

Smaller tweaks for launch include enhancing the Winner’s Circle feature, reducing camera motion during movement, and adding a Kill Counter for tracking killstreak progress. Weapon balancing details will come in the launch patch notes.

Mark your calendars! Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is hitting Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC on October 25. Check out all the juicy details on its campaign, Zombies, and multiplayer modes.
