October is packed with a bunch of spooky video games perfect for Halloween fun, but one game called Corporeal might stretch that spooky vibe even longer.
Cold Out, an indie team from New Zealand, is working on a paranormal mystery game called Corporeal, which uses real-life photos instead of game graphics, making it feel super creepy. This choice makes the game seem so real, especially in the trailer. It gives off vibes similar to Sam Barlow’s and Half Mermaid’s works like Immortality, blending with the eerie essence of the movie Sinister from 2012, where a writer discovers his house’s haunted past through old films and photos.
In Corporeal, players will dive into a photo album using old-school-style interfaces to solve puzzles that unravel the mystery of a haunted family. While it has been compared to Sinister and Immortality, the creators also mentioned influences like Annapurna’s Storyteller and the cult horror flick Lake Mungo.

Set in the 1990s, Corporeal joins a wave of projects tapping into that decade’s nostalgia, much like other eerie titles such as I Saw The TV Glow and Long Legs. We love how the nineties keep coming back in the coolest ways.
Although you can expect to find Corporeal on Steam, they haven’t shared when it will be out yet.
