Pearl Abyss has given us a sneak peek at three intense boss battles from their new game, Crimson Desert.
At Gamescom this week, fans saw the Reed Devil, Staglord, and Queen Stoneback Crab in action. Each boss presents unique challenges, showcasing the game’s diverse combat mechanics. The clips also offer a glimpse into Pywel’s world and the story scenes leading up to these epic encounters.
The Queen Stoneback Crab is a sneaky predator. Pearl Abyss says it hides as a shiny rock, tempting greedy adventurers with its sparkly gems. “A gem-crusted boulder sits stoic and silent, a dazzling prism of riches,” the developers describe. “Its shimmering splendor lures those intoxicated by greed to a seemingly innocuous hillock. Once they draw near, the Queen Stoneback Crab emerges to swiftly send all trespassers to an early grave.” Let’s hope there’s a weak spot to exploit for massive damage.

Next up is the Staglord. In Pearl Abyss’s words: “In the ruins of a forgotten kingdom, a fallen king sits upon a forsaken throne,” they explain. “He waits in solitude, his blade poised to protect his ashen stronghold, ready to deliver judgment to any invader foolish enough to claim what’s his.”

People are really excited about this game’s story.
Finally, there’s the Reed Devil. His tale is both sad and terrifying: “They say he was once a slum-dweller,” Pearl Abyss notes. “They say his fate was to die there, as an outcast. But when he donned his mask, he rewrote his destiny. Now he terrorizes the citizens of Hernand as the bogeyman they call ‘The Devil of the Reed Fields.'”

In this game, you play as Kliff, who leads the Greymane Free Company through Pywel. Crimson Desert was first revealed at The Game Awards in 2020 but got more attention with last year’s gameplay reveal at Gamescom.
Crimson Desert is up for several awards at Gamescom 2024, including Best Visuals and Most Epic. While it will be available on consoles and PC, there’s no release date yet.
