Treyarch’s classic Zombies gameplay returns in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 with two unique maps to explore.
BO6 Zombies: Crafting Your Custom Loadout
Custom loadouts are back! You start each match with your chosen weapon and gear, similar to Black Ops Cold War, but with a twist.
Your loadout begins with one main weapon slot, where you can add up to five attachments, provided you’ve unlocked them by leveling up your gun.
You’ll also have a melee slot, but don’t get too excited; at launch, your choices are limited to a knife or a baseball bat.
You can also pick one tactical item, a lethal gadget, a Zombies field upgrade, and a set of Gobblegums.
The starter guns won’t do much damage in later rounds, and it’s costly to boost their rarity or use Pack-a-Punch. So, don’t stress too much about your initial weapon choices.
It’s wiser to invest in higher rarity Wall Buys, try your luck with Mystery Box weapons, or score a Wonder Weapon like the Ray Gun.
Unlocking Augments
Augments, first seen in Black Ops Cold War, supercharge your field upgrades, perks, and ammo mods.
After round 25, things get tougher. Waves intensify, and armored zombies become more challenging. This is when Augments shine, giving you perks like extra health, faster movement, and no fall damage.
To get Augments, you must complete Augment Research, which unlocks at level 11. Start researching them as soon as you can.
There are 108 Augments, with each perk, ammo mod, and field upgrade having its major and minor Augments. You can only research one at a time, and it’s a slow process.
Stamin-Up is a solid start since many powerful Augments are locked until you’ve researched a certain number. For example, Juggernog Augments require you to research eight other Augments first. Prioritize Juggernog once available.

Recommended Field Upgrades
Black Ops 6 offers these field upgrades:
- Aether Shroud: Go invisible in the Dark Aether, avoiding enemy detection
- Frenzied Guard: Fix your armor and lure enemies to target you; kills repair armor
- Healing Aura: Heal and revive yourself and allies with energy beams
- Energy Mine: Create an energy mine that explodes, causing electric damage
- Dark Flare: Fire a massive energy beam causing shadow damage
For team play, mix field upgrades to suit different roles.
For instance, a medic should have Healing Aura, while the aggressive player might pick Frenzied Guard to draw zombies.
Aether Shroud works well for both solo and team games, letting you escape tight spots unseen.
Dark Flare is fun but not very team-focused. Energy Mine is less effective and enjoyable, so maybe skip it.
Gobblegum Strategies
Gobblegums are back in Zombies, providing strong but temporary effects. They’re optional; some players prefer a classic experience without them.
If you want to use Gobblegums, customize a pack of five gums with different rarities. Earn more by playing and completing rounds; you’ll get a notification when you do.
Fans, sometimes it’s fun to save powerful Gobblegums for special matches or high-round attempts.
Consider these gums:
- Perkaholic: Grants all map perks
- Phoenix Up: Revives teammates and retains their perks
- Wall Power: The next wall-bought weapon is Pack-a-Punched
- On The House: Spawns a random perk for you and your team
