A mid-season patch for Destiny 2 will bring several changes and fine-tuning to the game, with a significant focus on respawning in the Crucible for PvP. Initially, Bungie implemented respawn changes at the beginning of Season of the Deep, but testing showed that players in Control and Clash modes often found themselves in the crossfire upon respawning, instead of in a safer area.
Quick Facts
- Bungie aimed to respawn players near teammates but struggled to replicate the chaos of 6v6 matches.
- A hotfix after the mid-season patch will increase the influence of enemy player sightlines and proximity back to its original state.
- Other changes include adjustments to out-of-bounds spots, Competitive 3v3 matchmaking rating, a nerf to the Whisper of Chains Stasis fragment, and a buff to the Exotic Wicked Implement.
Bungie’s initial goal was to respawn players close to their teammates, but the chaos of 6v6 matches proved difficult for the studio to replicate. This resulted in less-than-ideal respawns for players. To address this issue, the first hotfix following the mid-season patch will increase the influence of enemy player sightlines and proximity back to its previous level.
“Ideally, we keep some of the benefits, like spawning nearer to active engagements without the downsides of spawning in the middle of a fight,” Bungie explained. “We will keep an eye on feedback and analytics over the coming weeks and continue to adjust as needed.”
Additional changes coming to PvP in the near future include adjustments to out-of-bounds spots on various maps, calculating Competitive 3v3 matchmaking rating based on both skill and rank, and a nerf to the Whisper of Chains Stasis fragment. The upcoming week will also see the return of one of Destiny 2’s major seasonal events, Solstice, and the game’s new Exotic Wicked Implement will receive a buff soon.
