Bungie is shaking things up in Destiny 2 by adding new enemy modifiers called Banes that will appear randomly in the game.
These Banes will force players to change their tactics when facing enemies. In a blog post, Bungie explained that these changes are coming with Codename: Frontiers, their upcoming expansions. The first test of two Banes will be in Episode: Revenant, launching on October 8.
Bungie says these Banes can show up anytime, like during a Nightfall Strike. They’re similar to Champion enemies but not as tough. For instance, the Meteor Bane makes enemies launch Solar Meteors that chase players but can be destroyed. Another Bane, called Shock, allows an enemy to build an electric charge that can zap a player in sight. If you defeat this enemy, the Shock can jump to nearby foes. You can watch them in action in Bungie’s video below.
Enemies with a Bane will have a bright, colorful crescent above their heads, showing the type of Bane they have. Other Banes mentioned include Punchable, where enemies have an unbreakable shield until hit with a melee attack; Berserk, which makes nearby enemies stronger; and Nuclear, which causes an enemy to explode in a Solar shockwave when its health gets low.
According to Bungie, Banes are still being developed, so they might change before we see them in the game. Also, Banes won’t appear on Champions in the Revenant update, and you won’t find multiple Banes on a single enemy.
We think these new Banes will make the game more fun and challenging for everyone.
Bungie wants to make Destiny 2’s PvE activities more exciting and replayable. Besides random Banes, there will be larger Enemy and Combat Modifiers to mix things up. This includes things like Surges that affect specific elements, changing how players tackle activities.
For example, some enemies might drop booby-trapped loot, a trick from the Forsaken expansion. Bungie also plans to give enemies new powers and change how players fight, without forcing players to use specific loadouts. While not all current modifiers will be replaced, some will be updated or swapped out to fit the new design goals for Codename: Frontiers.
Bungie is working hard to keep Destiny 2 fresh and engaging, ensuring fans stay hooked.
