Destiny 2 Raids & Dungeons Changing with 2025 DLC

-

Next year, Destiny 2 will have two smaller expansions instead of one big one.

Bungie, in a blog post, shared details about the new expansions planned for 2025, named Codename: Frontiers. Rather than their usual yearly big content drop, Bungie will release two smaller expansions with significant updates. The first one, Codename: Apollo, is set for Summer 2025 and will feature a new raid. The second, Codename: Behemoth, will launch in Winter 2025 with a new dungeon.

Interestingly, this change means that there will only be one dungeon released under Frontiers. Before, since the Witch Queen expansion, players got two dungeons per expansion via a “dungeon key” or as part of the expansion bundle. But now, with the Behemoth expansion including the dungeon, no dungeon key will be needed for Frontiers.

Bungie hasn’t yet responded to questions about these changes, but any updates will be shared if they do.

The blog didn’t reveal much about Apollo’s raid but mentioned they’re “exploring some twists on the raid format.” Following Apollo’s release, significant updates will bring new challenges and changes to the raid. Instead of the usual Master difficulty, there will be a system called Feats, which could include time trials or Contest mode difficulty combatants.

The Feats system sounds similar to the Skulls system from Bungie’s Halo games, where players could add different modifiers to make the game harder but with better rewards. The more Feats activated, the tougher the raid and the better the loot. Bungie also talked about adding a tier system to rewards, with Feats enhancing your chances for better loot.

Fans think this approach is quite interesting and adds more depth to the game.

Starting with Apollo, new raids will have the Feats system to allow more difficulty customization. However, this won’t apply to existing raids. Additionally, Apollo’s raid will get a “challenge update” introducing new rewards, mechanics, Feats, and possibly new encounters. Like other raids, it will start with a Raid Race to see who can complete it first.

The Behemoth expansion will bring a new dungeon, expanding the reward offerings to include full weapon and armor sets, comparable to raids. However, details about the dungeon’s size or scope weren’t provided.

The major update following Behemoth will add new raid and dungeon content. Bungie hints it might be similar to the Pantheon activity from Into the Light, which was a popular boss rush mode with increasing difficulty and specific challenges each week.

In the update after Behemoth, Bungie plans an Event for legacy raid and dungeon challenges. It’s still early in planning, so exact details aren’t clear, but it will likely focus on existing content rather than new additions.

Frontiers aims to give players more ways to adjust the difficulty and make replaying content rewarding. These changes focus on enhancing current content and adding new challenges. We’ll see how these updates change Destiny 2 and affect player engagement.
