Get ready for a fresh twist in Destiny 2 with the arrival of the Revenant episode on October 8.
During a developer livestream, Bungie revealed an updated version of Onslaught called Onslaught: Salvation, featuring three new maps like Widow’s Court on Earth, new enemies, and upgraded defenses.
Onslaught: Salvation ties into the story of the Scorn, undead aliens created by the Darkness, continuing the plot from The Final Shape and Echoes. One of the Echoes, a powerful artifact, has been seized by the Fanatic, the Scorn’s leader, to evolve his army.
In gameplay terms, this means you’ll face the Scorn and their allies, the Darkness-aligned Cabal Shadow Legion. As the Fanatic tries to grow his undead army, you’ll fight through waves of enemies, defeat Scorn bosses, and free captured Eliksni.
Fans might find it intriguing that Onslaught: Salvation includes 10-wave, 50-wave, and 50-wave Expert versions. The mode is Power level-enabled, making it tougher as players work to reach the new Power cap, which is 10 levels higher.
There will be new defenses to help players, including a manual turret, air strikes triggered by enemies, and updated trip mines creating Stasis fields and crystals.
Sometimes, we get really attached to these stories and characters.
This season might be emotional because the Scorn were created by Uldren Sov, who is now the Guardian Crow. Crow has all of Uldren’s memories and feels responsible for the Scorn’s actions, making him a significant presence in this episode.
Mithrax and his daughter Eido will also feature prominently. Eido will likely be the main vendor, helping players craft “tonics” that offer combat and reward benefits.
Combat tonics boost bonuses from Artifact mods, while reward tonics increase weapon drop rates and enhance perks. The weapons in this episode are not craftable, so tonics will be essential.
Expect a focus on Stasis and grenade launchers. The Season Pass Exotic weapon is a Stasis breech-loading grenade launcher that generates special and heavy ammo for teammates when charged.
Bungie also teased the return of Ice Breaker, a powerful sniper rifle from Destiny 1. The new version gains ammo with kills and assists, making it useful against bosses for extended periods.
Revenant will also bring a revised Crucible map and the return of the Inverted Spire Strike on Nessus, with adjusted encounters and more lasers.
Lastly, there’s a new skimmer board called The Xurfboard, purchasable from Xur for 97 Strange Coins. It’s a hoverboard replacing your Sparrow and last seen during the Guardian Games in March.
