There’s chatter about a new mobile game called Destiny Rising being developed by NetEase.
This buzz started with a tweet from
, who mentioned that despite Bungie’s recent layoffs, Destiny Rising is still in the works. Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb confirmed this on Threads, adding that the game will have Hero characters instead of letting players create their own. Yet, the game should still give the same vibe as playing Destiny on a console or PC, just on a smaller screen.
In early 2022, when Sony bought Bungie, they brought in new staff for various projects, including mobile versions of Destiny, as reported by Bloomberg. Destiny Rising might be one of these. However, another Destiny spin-off, codenamed Payback, got canceled. Bungie insiders called it “the next Destiny” instead of “Destiny 3.”
During a recent restructuring, Bungie let go of 17% of its employees, including veterans like Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy. But it was later clarified on The Game Post that they chose to leave on their own.
We all love seeing our favorite games come to mobile. For instance, Tencent is reportedly working on a mobile version of Elden Ring and secured rights to publish a mobile version of Blue Protocol before the game was even shut down.
