A Diablo 4 player managed to hit the game’s damage cap, making the game display an infinity symbol.
Rob2628, known for pushing the limits in Diablo 4, achieved this on the test server where Blizzard is experimenting with patch 2.0 changes for the upcoming Vessel of Hatred expansion.
.
Interestingly, the 2.0 update aims to make numbers easier to understand by reducing player levels and scaling down stats. However, Rob2628’s massive damage shows that things aren’t going as planned. He mentioned that his insane damage numbers were likely due to a bug, which will probably be fixed before the update officially releases.
To pull off this crazy feat, Rob2628 used gear that boosted Thorns and Maximum Life. He also used the Barbarian’s new Thorns-focused Key Passive, Barbed Carapace, and got 31 ranks of the Tough as Nails passive skill, which increases Thorns damage and can make enemies bleed.
On top of that, he utilized two new Runewords from the Vessel of Hatred expansion: one that boosts life (and thus Thorns) and another that causes an earthquake when standing still. Using high attack speed and Fury generation, his Barbarian continuously used the Whirlwind ability, causing Thorn damage to skyrocket until the game couldn’t display the numbers anymore. He even defeated a Tier 100 Pit boss instantly.
“This can pretty much speed-farm everything in the game, obviously, because we have infinite damage,” Rob2628 explained in his video about the achievement.
Fans always love seeing these wild achievements.
The Diablo 4 2.0 update and Vessel of Hatred expansion are set to release on October 8. The expansion will introduce a new class called the Spiritborn, revamp the difficulty system, add Mercenaries, and feature a unique endgame dungeon.
