Diablo 4 Update May Add Secret Cow Level

-

Diablo 4’s test servers have shown off some cool new items in the big 2.0 update that could help players find the secret cow level.

Since Diablo 4 came out, players have been trying to find the secret level. Even though Blizzard says it doesn’t exist (like they always do), players keep looking everywhere in Sanctuary for clues to unlock it.

The new expansion, Vessel of Hatred, might just be the answer. Dataminers from Wowhead found some interesting items in the 2.0 update test build, which is coming out with the expansion in October.

One item, the Rusted Bardiche, is familiar to fans of Diablo 2’s secret cow level. It’s the weapon used by the cow enemies there. In Diablo 3, using the Bovine Bardiche in Kanai’s Cube opened the cow level called “Not the Cow Level.”

But that’s not the only thing dataminers found. There are four more items: the Unusual Key, Rusted Old Bell, Jabbering Gemstone, and Crooked Staff. These items (except the key) seem like nods to Diablo 3’s Wirt’s Bell, Staff of Herding, and Gibbering Gemstone, which opened a portal to Whimsyshire, also known as the “pony” level.

Even though we know about these items now, players still don’t know where to find them in the game or how to use them to unlock the cow level, Whimsyshire, or maybe something new. With Diablo 4’s history of secrets, finding the cow level will need a lot of searching and experimenting by players.

Fans are really excited about this new update.

The last big clue about the cow level was in October 2023. A player found three secret items, killed 666 cows exactly, and then cleansed the items at ox statues in Ked Bardu city. This gave them a Strange Key that opened a hidden area called the Forlorn Hovel. Inside were cows that dropped a Stamina Potion when killed, a nod to Diablo 2’s Cow King. Drinking the potion gave a buff with no clear effect, so the hunt for the cow level went on.

Diablo 4’s 2.0 update is coming on October 8 and will change a lot of things in the game, like reworking the difficulty system and reorganizing the endgame. Plus, the Vessel of Hatred expansion will add the new Spiritborn class, Diablo 2-style Runewords, Mercenary companions, and a brand-new endgame dungeon.
