The fresh trailer for Diablo 4’s Vessel of Hatred expansion teases new game features and possibly the final boss.
Potential Vessel of Hatred story spoilers ahead.
Two major story points are shown. First, the Cathedral of Light has split after Inarius’ death in the main game. Now, a new group called the Burnt Knights wants control, and they are quite hostile. In the trailer, Urivar, their leader, is about to execute someone while his followers cheer. It looks like Urivar could be a boss fight since the knights blame Neyrelle, Lorath, and the player for the Cathedral’s fall and are chasing them.
With Inarius gone, it’s uncertain if the Burnt Knights follow another angel, but it seems players might fight heavenly forces in the expansion. A new Mythic Unique item, Heir of Perdition, boosts damage against angels and demons by +200%. This hints that players will battle both angels and demons in the expansion.
The second story reveal involves Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred. Neyrelle, carrying a Soul Stone with Mephisto, aims to end his evil forever. As she travels, she struggles with Mephisto’s dark influence corrupting her mind.
The trailer hints at a final boss fight with Mephisto, who appears as a giant tentacle-wolf demon. Whether this is his ultimate form is unknown. It’s surprising Blizzard would spoil such a big moment in the trailer, even though fans expected to fight Mephisto. Could Blizzard have a twist, with Mephisto not being the final boss? We won’t have to wait much longer to find out.
Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred releases on October 8 and adds many new gameplay elements. The trailer shows recruitable Mercenaries returning, a new endgame co-op dungeon, a new class called the Spiritborn, and the return of Runewords from Diablo 2.
