This week, fans of Dragon Age get to explore Thedas again with the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Longtime players might notice familiar events from earlier games, and that’s because David Gaider, who used to be the lead writer, had a master plan for the series. He crafted the lore years back and it still shapes the game today. Gaider mentioned to Eurogamer that he designed the world with interconnected plots. While he wasn’t sure if they’d ever fully explore his vision, he always knew how it all fit together. Initially, these ideas lived in his mind, until the team demanded more details during the making of Inquisition. They eventually extracted his grand narrative, which was then documented as a secret lore guide, hidden from most of the team.
Even though Gaider left BioWare after Inquisition, it looks like parts of his original ideas continue in The Veilguard. For instance, Fen’Harel’s return aligns with his plans, but he won’t reveal his intended ending for the series, in case BioWare wants to pursue it one day.
Sometimes, we wonder if creators ever get to see their dreams realized.
Gaider always imagined an epic conclusion to the Dragon Age saga, a final act that could potentially change everything. But he saw it as a distant possibility, something that might happen someday if all the stars aligned.
Now, you can play Dragon Age: The Veilguard on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
