After nearly a decade of waiting, Dragon Age: The Veilguard finally made its appearance at the end of October.
John Epler, the creative mind behind Dragon Age, mentioned in an interview with Eurogamer that fans spent years dreaming up their own versions of the game, making it impossible to meet everyone’s expectations. “The reality was whatever we came out with, it was never going to match the Dragon Age 4 in people’s minds and people’s imaginations.”
The journey to creating The Veilguard was long and bumpy, with the game shifting from a live-service format back to its single-player roots. Despite these twists, director Corinne Busche expressed contentment with how things turned out. “We’re very happy with the critical reception to the game,” she stated, noting how rare it is for a game with such a tough development to receive such praise. But when it comes to sales, Busche remained tight-lipped, though she did hint that, like Inquisition, it might take time to reach impressive numbers.
Sometimes, we just need to remember that not every game will be a hit right away.
EA announced there won’t be any DLC for The Veilguard since BioWare is now focusing on the next Mass Effect game. Even so, Busche remains hopeful about Dragon Age’s future. “There’s so many stories left, so many mysteries left unsolved, so I’ll leave that for what it is,” she mused, seeing the franchise’s ability to change as both a challenge and a chance.
