EA Releases Two Accessibility Patents as Open-Source

-

EA has decided to share two of its patents with everyone, making them open-source for all developers to use.

In the world of gaming, making games accessible for everyone, especially for those with disabilities, is becoming more important. A few years back, EA promised to make their technology more available to help people enjoy games better. Now, they’ve taken a step forward by offering two patents for free. You can read more about this update on their website.

One of these patents focuses on speech technology that helps games understand players’ voices better, considering their age, feelings, and how they talk. The other patent, called IRIS, is a tool for Unreal Engine 5. It helps game creators spot parts of a game that might cause seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy.

“The sooner you start testing, the sooner you find potential issues,” said Blanca Macazaga Zuaz, who works on the IRIS technology.

It’s nice to see big companies like EA helping make games more accessible for everyone.

Sometimes, we need more companies to think this way.
