Hidetaka Miyazaki has shared that there’s no Elden Ring 2 on the horizon right now.
During a speech after winning an award for the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, Miyazaki mentioned that the studio isn’t planning on a sequel, according to IGN Japan and Automaton. “We’re not really considering developments such as an Elden Ring 2,” he said.
Even though a second game isn’t in the cards at the moment, Miyazaki hinted that Elden Ring might pop up again someday, somehow. There have even been whispers about a possible movie, although nothing’s official yet.
It’s interesting how From Software is juggling many projects. Miyazaki is personally involved in some, while others are led by different teams within the company.
Elden Ring, launched in 2022, had already attracted 25 million players by June, and that was before the Shadow of the Erdtree came out. The game’s popularity keeps climbing, and it’s the eighth best-seller in 2024 in the US!
Sometimes, fans just have to be patient and see what surprises come next.
The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is up for Game of the Year at The Game Awards, and this year, expansions can win that title too. The big event is on Thursday, December 12.
