Naoki Yoshida, the producer of Final Fantasy 16, kindly requests players not to create or use offensive mods when the game releases on PC this September 17th.
During a chat with PC Gamer, Yoshida made this appeal. When asked about fun mods for the PC release, game director Hiroshi Takai didn’t respond. Instead, Yoshida politely asked players to steer clear of creating or using mods that might be offensive.
“If we said, ‘It’d be great if someone made XYZ,’ it might come across as a request, so I’ll avoid mentioning any specifics here,” Yoshida commented. “The only thing I will say is that we definitely don’t want to say anything offensive or inappropriate, so please don’t make or install anything like that.”
However, seeing how there are over 1,200 mods for Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Nexus Mods, it’s likely that Yoshida’s plea might be ignored. Many of those mods, just like for Final Fantasy 16, feature characters in new or revealing outfits and change their body shapes. While some mods add new weapons, better visuals, or remove game grind, the reality is that mods making Tifa, Aerith, or Cloud wear skimpy outfits are very popular.
Fans, we know how things usually go.
With Final Fantasy 16 coming to PC, history might repeat itself. Clive and Cid might be shirtless (and maybe even kissing) within hours of the game’s release, leaving Yoshida to accept the inevitable.
Final Fantasy 16 will be available on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store starting September 17. The base game will cost $50, and for $70, you can get the “Complete Edition” with Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide DLCs.
