If you haven’t tried out Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PS5 yet, you might want to wait a bit longer.
A recent report shows that the game looks significantly better on the upcoming PS5 Pro, which will be released this fall for $700. Digital Foundry compared footage from the PS5 Pro with the regular PS5 gameplay, and they discovered that the PS5 Pro version offers “a 60fps presentation that’s a huge improvement over the standard PS5 and irons out its performance drops. And in some respects, the footage suggests that [PS5] Pro at 60fps even has advantages over the base machine in its 30fps quality mode.”
The comparison video above shows how blurry Final Fantasy VII Rebirth can look on PS5 with Performance Smooth mode. On the PS5 Pro, however, the game features much better image quality, whether it’s characters or distant trees. Skin textures also appear more detailed. Digital Foundry pointed out that Barret’s face has more detail on the PS5 Pro, while on the PS5, it almost looks smeared.
Moreover, the PS5 Pro version of the game seems to maintain a near-constant 60fps, while the PS5 edition with Performance mode can experience frame rate drops, especially during intense battles, according to Digital Foundry via Eurogamer. The Performance Smooth and Sharp modes were introduced in the first patch for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth earlier this year.
Sometimes, we just want our favorite games to look their best.
Square Enix has mentioned that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Final Fantasy XVI didn’t sell as well as they hoped. Moving forward, they plan to include Queen’s Blood in Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3.
