Once you finish the main quest “The Promised, Broken” in Starfield Shattered Space, you need to pick a sub-house to support within House Va’ruun to access the Scaled Citadel.
Among the three houses, one is House Veth’aal, based in The Keep in Va’ruun’kai. At The Keep, you’ll meet Viktor, the head of House Veth’aal. He tells you his son, Vaeric, has abandoned his claim to the house and must be executed for treason. To get House Veth’aal’s support, you need to track down Vaeric and decide what happens to him. Here’s how you can do it.
Finding Vaeric in Starfield
After leaving Viktor, head to Herald’s Rest, a bar in Dazra where Vaeric used to hang out. Talk to three NPCs there to gather clues. First, find Bianca Latif, one of Vaeric’s old friends, near a railing in the bar.
Bianca is hesitant to share information, but you can try persuading her. If persuasion fails, the third NPC will mention Tane, a friend of Vaeric, who is expected to arrive at the bar soon.
When Tane shows up, you’ll recognize him by his face and neck tattoos. Chat with Tane, who isn’t a House Va’ruun member. You can pay him 1,000 Credits to learn Vaeric’s location, which is the easiest way.
Tane reveals he placed a tracker on Vaeric. He offers to help you find him outside the city walls. Go to the western wall of Dazra, exit the gate, and start tracking.
Tracking Vaeric in Starfield
The tracker beeps faster when you face the right direction. Slower beeps mean you’re off course. Follow the beeping or check the map below:
The tracker leads you to an Abandoned Camp northwest of Dazra. Search the camp for these clues:
- The tracker on a crate next to the bed
- The Vortex Spawn on the ground left of the bed
- Footprints beside the Vortex Spawn (Bounty Hunter only)
- Bloodstains on a rock right of the bed
After finding the clues, Foul Vortex Horror enemies will ambush you. They can teleport and attack with powerful melee moves. There are three to defeat before you can continue.
Once they’re defeated, tell Tane what you found. You then follow Vaeric’s trail to a farm. Convince the NPC there that you know Vaeric passed through. They’ll give you a general direction to follow.
Fans often feel curious about how these quests unfold.
Follow the quest marker to a farmhouse. Inside, find these clues:
- Vaeric’s Log – Entry 1 on a table upstairs
- Vaeric’s Computer in the back room
As you head out to tell Tane, Vaeric appears. He’s been hiding at the farm, taking care of animals.
Choosing Vaeric’s Fate in Starfield
Talk to Vaeric. You can either listen to him or be hostile. If you want to kill him, tell him his father wants him dead. However, listening to him offers a peaceful solution.
If you hear him out, Vaeric explains he didn’t want to be involved in his father’s politics. He wants to live his own life and feels guilty for letting his father down but doesn’t want to be the heir.
At the end, you have three choices:
- Persuade Vaeric to go home
- Let him go but take his Signet Ring as proof of death. You can also ask for 10,000 Credits along with the ring.
- Attack and take his Signet Ring
The best outcome is letting Vaeric live but taking his Signet Ring for Viktor. Persuading him to return home is another good option but requires passing a persuasion check. Attacking him is unnecessary unless your character role demands it.
Finally, return to Viktor with the Signet Ring or Vaeric himself. You’ll get the power grid codes needed for the main story and can continue aiding House Va’ruun factions.
