Before 1988, John Madden was a big name in the NFL as a coach and on TV, but he became a video game superstar after his game series launched.
When the first Madden game was being made, John Madden insisted it should truly reflect football, with 11 players per team, which was a tough task back then. As gaming tech improved over the years, Madden NFL games got better and better at showing real football action.
Some folks even talk about “the Madden curse,” saying players like Christian McCaffrey get injured after being on the game’s cover, although it’s probably just because football is so rough. Yet, the idea of the curse still gets mentioned.
