Rockstar Games has rolled out new anti-cheat updates for Grand Theft Auto 5, aiming to tackle cheaters.
However, this update has caused issues for those playing on Steam Deck. Now, GTA 5 is marked as “unsupported” on Steam Deck, possibly due to a disagreement between Rockstar and Valve. According to The Verge, a message pops up saying, “this game’s anti-cheat is not configured to support Steam Deck,” and warns that “some or all of the game” may not work. They didn’t specify that the affected part is Grand Theft Auto Online.
In a blog post, Rockstar explains that Steam Deck doesn’t support their anti-cheat software, BattlEye, for GTA Online. Interestingly, The Verge points out that other games have managed to use BattlEye on Steam Deck without issues. Despite this, Rockstar tells gamers to seek help from Valve’s Steam Deck support if they face problems.
Fans often wonder why companies can’t just get along. Rockstar has removed Grand Theft Auto Online from Steam Deck for now, but the single-player story mode still works, even with the “unsupported” tag. Maybe they’ll find a way to fix this in the future. Meanwhile, gamers are excited for Grand Theft Auto 6, set to release in Fall 2025.
