GTA 6 Projected to Earn $3 Billion in First Year

-

Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to rake in more than $3 billion in its first year, according to a research company.

Based on a Financial Times article, DFC Intelligence predicts GTA 6 could make around $3.2 billion within 12 months of release, with preorders alone crossing the $1 billion mark. However, the report doesn’t explain how these figures were calculated or if they include money from microtransactions or special editions. GameSpot has reached out to DFC for more information.

It’s not exactly a shocker that GTA 6 might earn so much cash. The game’s predecessor was a huge hit, and everyone is buzzing with excitement for this next chapter.

When GTA 5 launched in September 2013, it pulled in a whopping $1 billion in just three days, and that didn’t even count the earnings from GTA Online, which came out the following month.

Take-Two’s Strauss Zelnick mentioned to FT that he wouldn’t “claim victory before it occurs,” but he’s pretty sure Rockstar Games will deliver something “absolutely phenomenal.”

Rockstar has been working on GTA 6 for several years, though it wasn’t until February 2022 that they confirmed it was happening. According to the FT, the game’s development has cost anywhere from the “high hundreds of millions” to over $2 billion, including post-launch updates.

GTA 6 has big expectations to meet since GTA 5 has sold over 205 million copies, making it the third best-selling game ever, trailing only Minecraft and Tetris.

The official release date for GTA 6 is Fall 2025, but there’s chatter it might slip to 2026. This wouldn’t be surprising, as Rockstar’s games often get pushed back from their original launch dates. Some say GTA 6 has already missed several internal deadlines.

Fans, we just can’t wait any longer!

Interestingly, Rockstar didn’t talk about GTA 6 for an entire year. The first trailer dropped in December 2023, and everyone thought another one would come out in 2024. But nope, that didn’t happen, despite all the “proof” people thought they had. Zelnick recently acknowledged that fans are growing restless, but Rockstar insists on waiting until the game is just right.
