For almost three years, gamers have been waiting to hear more about Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR.
Originally announced in 2021 for Meta Quest 2, the game seemed to vanish as Meta focused on the Meta Quest 3. Updates became rare, and now Meta has confirmed that GTA: San Andreas VR is “indefinitely delayed.” On their official YouTube channel, a representative mentioned that they are pausing the project to work on other things. They said, “GTA: San Andreas is on hold indefinitely while we both focus on other projects. We look forward to working with our friends at Rockstar in the future.” This news was later confirmed by IGN.
Fans might wonder how much progress was made since there were no screenshots or videos released by Meta for this VR version. The original game by Rockstar was already groundbreaking when it came out in 2004, offering a bigger world and an exciting story compared to previous titles like GTA III and Vice City.
People still love San Andreas, which is why it was included in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition along with GTA III and Vice City. This remastered collection came out in 2021 for modern consoles and PCs. If Meta’s VR version stays paused forever, the Definitive Edition might be the only way to experience San Andreas again.
Sometimes we just have to be patient even if it’s hard.
