Three years back, when Rockstar Games launched Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, it was full of glitches that left many fans disappointed.
Fast forward to today, and players on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC can finally see some enhancements after nearly two years of waiting for updates. According to IGN, a surprise update has been released by Rockstar, bringing the console and PC versions closer to the mobile version’s standards. Improvements in lighting, shadows, reflections, and draw distance have been noted, making the games look more like their original versions. Social media is buzzing with users sharing these changes.
1) Classic Lighting
All three titles of the Trilogy have received a “Classic Lighting” setting that completely transforms each game’s visuals to resemble the originals more faithfully.
San Andreas’s Los Santos has that orange haze back now, The Desert got it’s purple sky look…— Synth Potato (@SynthPotato)
Interestingly, in this update, GTA 3 and Vice City allow running while holding shotguns and automatics, and San Andreas’ weather patterns have made a comeback. We all love when old favorites get a new shine.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but with the new Classic Lightning and the GTA Trilogy DE Patch

Moreover, Grove Street Games, the team behind the troubled ports, is no longer featured in the opening credits for these updated versions, which hints at their absence from the recent improvements. Sadly, players using Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One will miss out on this update, as stated in Rockstar’s patch notes.
