Helldivers 2 Becomes PlayStation’s Largest PC Launch by Concurrent Players

-

Helldivers 2 just dropped on PC, and guess what? It’s smashing records left and right. Seriously, it’s now the hottest PlayStation title on Steam, judging by the number of folks playing at the same time.

We’re talking a whopping 81,840 players all diving into chaos together at its peak. That’s nuts, especially when you stack it against God of War’s peak of 73,529 back in January 2022. Oh, and it even zoomed past Spider-Man’s 66,436 peak. SteamDB’s got all these juicy stats.

Now, onto something a bit different. Ever tried watching a video and your browser just goes, “Nope”? Yeah, it’s annoying. And, oh, the video format’s all wrong. Great. Plus, there’s this whole “Sorry, you can’t see this” thing. They even want your birthdate to let you in. Talk about gatekeeping.

By the way, there’s this trailer for Helldivers 2’s PC features that’s apparently a must-watch. If you’re into that sort of thing.

Back to the game, it’s not just about the players. Helldivers 2 is raking in the cash on Steam. As of now, it’s sitting pretty as the 16th most-played game. It’s even outpacing giants like Warframe and this indie gem, Lethal Company. What’s interesting is that it launched on PS5 and Steam simultaneously. A bold move, especially since it’s mainly a multiplayer affair. Quite the departure from Sony’s usual single-player masterpieces.

But, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows for the devs at Arrowhead Game Studios. They’ve hit a bit of a rough patch, dealing with crashes and some seriously wonky matchmaking. They’re on it, though, working hard to smooth things out. And it seems to be working, with the game’s reviews shifting from “Mixed” to “Mostly Positive.”

Oh, and for those who love teaming up with friends across platforms, Helldivers 2 has got you covered with cross-play between PS5 and PC. Plus, there’s talk of free updates coming our way. New threats, new challenges—sounds like a blast, right?
