Helldivers 2 Boss Takes Responsibility for Killzone DLC Pricing, Announces Free Updates

-

[UPDATE] Arrowhead shared that they’ve decided to make some tweaks to the Killzone 2 DLC for Helldivers 2 after hearing what fans had to say. Click here to see their announcement.

The studio announced, “Firstly, we are gifting to everyone the planned second wave of the Helldivers x Killzone collaboration items today, free of charge. The distribution of those items will begin shortly, in two waves,” the studio said. “As such, we’re also going to extend the duration of the items currently in the Superstore from 5 days to 10 days so that you have a chance to get hold of it and reduce the risk of missing out.”

They’re also exploring how to permanently keep the Killzone items around.

Now, here’s what we originally talked about.

People have had mixed feelings about the new Killzone DLC for Sony’s Helldivers II, especially with how much it costs. Arrowhead’s boss, Shams Jorjani, cleared things up by saying that Arrowhead, not Sony, made the pricing choices. They’ve decided to offer some DLC free during the holidays as a response to the criticism.

Jorjani explained on the Helldivers Discord channel, as reported by IGN, “It’s a partnership [with Sony],” he said. “But we are in the driving seat behind the decisions. This one is on us.”

He also mentioned that since this is the first crossover content for Helldivers 2, they’re figuring things out as they go. Plus, more sales mean more free stuff in the future.

Arrowhead’s John Pilestedt took to social media to address the price concerns. He explained that they tried to avoid bad vibes but ended up causing some anyway. Running a business means making money to keep games like Helldivers 2 going strong.

The first set of Killzone items for Helldivers 2 hit on December 18 and will stay available until December 23. The prices range from 90 to 615 credits, which is about $7, for the new assault rifle. More Killzone goodies will drop on December 23.

Recently, the game added the Omens of Tyranny update, introducing a new zombie-like faction and urban environments for battles. It’s been a big year for Arrowhead, with Helldivers 2 breaking records as the fastest-selling PlayStation game, selling over 12 million copies in its first three months.

Helldivers 2 has become the third best-selling game of 2024 in the US, just behind Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and EA Sports College Football 25.
