Helldivers 2 Competitor Launches Today

-

This month is packed with big game releases, and among them, Starship Troopers: Extermination is now available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S for those eager to battle against bugs.

The game’s leader, Peter Maurice, mentioned in an interview with GameSpot that their focus is on 16-player teams, incorporating building as a main gameplay element. “We’re full 16-player, we have a different gameplay loop, we have building as a core component of our loop,” he said. When you really look into it, while both games involve bug battles, Extermination is truly the “bug game.”

While Extermination is officially tied to the 1997 film, Helldivers 2 draws its inspiration from the Starship Troopers universe, sharing elements like a galaxy-wide war theme, character outfits, and a sprinkle of humor. But Extermination has a special trick: the mess left by defeated bugs can actually affect the battlefield, either trapping players or providing cover.

Fans think it’s pretty cool how games can be inspired by movies and create their own unique experiences.

In the full version of Starship Troopers: Extermination, Casper Van Dien returns as Johnny Rico in a solo campaign, guiding players to learn how to eliminate every bug they encounter with their team. Remember the saying: the only good bug is a dead bug.
