Guerrilla Games, the developer behind the PlayStation series, has announced that it has numerous plans in the works for the franchise, including about 16 projects. Studio director Jan-Bart van Beek shared this news at Develop: Brighton, stating that the company will continue the series for a long time and will also be working on a multiplayer game.
Quick Facts
- Guerrilla Games has around 16 plans in development for the franchise.
- The studio is working on a multiplayer game as well.
- A Horizon Forbidden West sequel is in development, with other transmedia projects like a rumored PS5 remaster, a Netflix TV series adaptation, and an MMO spin-off.
Van Beek mentioned that the multiplayer project is a cooperative game, which is a significant shift for the studio and is considered to be “almost on the same level” as Horizon Zero Dawn in terms of development. He said, “Building this all out to a multiplayer experience is a whole new challenge for the studio.”
In April, Guerrilla confirmed that a Horizon Forbidden West sequel is in development. The franchise is also being expanded through several transmedia projects, such as a rumored Horizon Zero Dawn remaster for PS5, a Netflix TV series adaptation, and the previously mentioned MMO spin-off. However, one familiar face and voice that won’t be around for the expansion of Horizon is Lance Reddick, as the actor sadly passed away earlier this year. Reddick had provided the voice and likeness for the deuteragonist Sylens, and in the Burning Shores DLC, his last appearance saw him preparing to take on the apparent true antagonist of the Horizon games.
