In a twist nobody saw coming, Humble Games let go of all its employees back in July, which was a real shocker for the indie game world.
But guess what? Those former Humble folks, led by Mark Nash and Alan Patmore, bounced back by launching a new indie publisher called Good Games Group. Surprisingly, one of their first clients is Ziff Davis, the very parent company of Humble Games that let them go. According to Eurogamer, these guys are excited to dive back into the gaming scene, despite the bumpy past with Ziff Davis.
Alan Patmore shared, “Good Games Group’s mission is to bring exceptional indie games to the global gaming community,” and he believes teaming up with Ziff Davis will help them keep working with talented indie developers they knew from before and explore new paths.
We don’t really know yet which games Good Games Group will be handling, but if you peek at their website, you might spot some familiar faces like Ring of Pain, Signalis, and Supraland. It’s kind of like seeing an old friend, right? Even though Ziff Davis said earlier that the layoffs wouldn’t mess up their plans, things have been a bit uncertain. They even had an outside firm, The Powell Group, ready to tie up any loose ends. But Humble Games hasn’t spilled the beans yet on how they feel about this new partnership or if The Powell Group is still involved.
Honestly, fans can’t believe how tough 2024 has been for gaming, hitting both big studios and little indie teams hard. It’s like, will this ever stop?
