Jets Owner Blocks Trade Over Player’s Madden Rating Report

-

In the Madden NFL games, players can control their favorite football teams by making choices like drafting or signing new players. Woody Johnson, the owner of the New York Jets, has taken inspiration from these games for his real-life team decisions. It seems he even stopped a trade because a player’s Madden rating wasn’t high enough.

The Jets almost traded with the Denver Broncos for Jerry Jeudy back in March. But when Johnson saw Jeudy’s Madden NFL 24 rating, he called off the deal. According to The Athletic, Jeudy’s rating was 83, as reported by the Denver Post. Funny enough, after moving to the Cleveland Browns, Jeudy still has the same 83 overall rating in Madden NFL 25.

Jeudy caught 54 passes, gained 758 yards, and scored two touchdowns last year, says ESPN. This season, playing for the Browns, he’s got 70 catches, over a thousand yards, and four touchdowns. His standout moment was catching nine passes for 235 yards and a touchdown in one game.

Sometimes, fans think it’s amusing how video games can impact real-life decisions.

Johnson has reportedly mentioned player ratings when considering new team members for the Jets. The Athletic shared he hesitated to sign John Simpson, an offensive lineman, because of his awareness score. Simpson’s current rating is 85 in Madden NFL 25. Some folks believe his sons might be the reason for his interest in Madden stats.

The Madden games are super popular, being the top-selling US game during release month for 25 years straight. Want to know more? You can check out GameSpot’s Madden NFL 25 review.
