Kojima: OD & Physint Affected by Strike

-

Hideo Kojima recently shared some news about his latest projects, including Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, OD, and Physint.

The progress on OD and Physint hit a snag due to the SAG-AFTRA strike affecting video game actors, which kicked off in July 2024 and hasn’t wrapped up yet. Kojima, working with Microsoft and Xbox for OD, explained that they made headway in developing the game and capturing environments and actors through scanning. But, because of the strike, these scanning and filming activities had to pause. Similarly, casting for Physint, a Sony project, was also put on hold. Kojima hopes they can pick things up again in 2025.

For Death Stranding 2, Kojima mentioned, “We started to play and build up the game,” and added that they are busy with music and actor recordings. Games that started before September 2023, like Death Stranding 2, aren’t affected by the strike, possibly explaining why OD and Physint faced disruptions.

OD’s cast includes Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier, with Jordan Peele, an Oscar winner, helping with the script. Physint’s cast remains a mystery. Meanwhile, Death Stranding 2 stars Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, Troy Baker, and Elle Fanning, among others.

The strike, beginning on July 26 at 12:01 AM, marks the first since 2016, which lasted about a year. SAG-AFTRA and big names like Warner Bros., Activision, and Disney tried negotiating for nearly two years before the strike, mainly around generative AI rules.

We all hope these negotiations lead to fair outcomes soon.

Kojima is not just stopping at games; he’s preparing for a Death Stranding movie and other adaptations of his work. When Physint was announced, he also confirmed teaming up with Sony’s Columbia Pictures, hinting at a possible Physint film.

In December 2024, Kojima showed up at The Game Awards but didn’t have any new announcements for fans.
